Everyone prepares a monologue and/or songs for auditions, but what about the Dance Call? How do you dress? How do you warm up? How do you learn the dance steps quickly and accurately, so you can show the choreographer what you are capable of? What if you’re asked to do something like improvise or demonstrate special skills?
Whether you are brand new to dance auditions or a seasoned pro with years of experience, this workshop will give you valuable tools for maximizing this part of the audition. Three of our mainstage choreographers will guide you through the process, giving everyone a chance to learn and ask questions. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how to master this important audition skill!
Session 1:
Proper attire for a Dance Call - and what to do if you also have a callback that same day?
Warm your body up - what kind of stretches and exercises will get your body ready to move and avoid injury?
Learn a warmup you can use on your own!
Learning & Memory - tips for improving speed of learning and memory.
Mock Dance Call - Learn an eight 8-count combination and "audition" it.
How to learn from a video explained.
In-between Sessions:
Video of choreography is available on Class Links on the evening after the first class. Students are expected to learn it independently, just like they would for an audition.
Session 2:
Listening for clues - what does the choreographer or director want to see from you when you audition the combination you learned?
Identifying performance anxiety and learning to use it to your benefit!
What do you do when the music is playing and you're waiting for 5-6-7-8?
Special tricks and improvisation - how do you prepare in case you are asked to share extra tricks, do an “across the floor” combination, or to improvise?
Quick review of video combination - once through with counts, Q&A, run it to music, audition it!

Stage management is the art and practice of organizing and coordinating a theatrical production. Stage managers are the critical, but invisible glue that brings every well-produced show together! This hands-on class will teach you about the core responsibilities of stage managers and how their position fits into the overall plan for a production. Learn terminology and how to build the production book, create reports and worksheets, arrange and efficiently manage a backstage area, call light and sound cues, communicate with cast families and different departments, and direct actors and a backstage crew. Examine the art of working with actors, directors, technical directors, set and costume designers, and house management to bring a theatrical vision to life on stage.
If you are interested in stage managing a camp or a mainstage production, this class is for you! -

Interested in directing or teaching theatre arts in the future?
In this class, actors and aspiring student directors will learn the basics of how to bring an artistic vision to life on stage. Directing theories and artistic tools will be taught, along with explorations into the creative process and how to effectively collaborate with a creative team.
With guidance from the instructor, students will choose their own scenes to direct from a variety of plays, musicals, and sketches, depending on their own interests. They will then apply the skills learned in the workshop to transform their creative VISION into an actual plan for a production.
This workshop could grow into a winter break or spring session in which students produce their own scenes using the skills learned in this workshop!
